About Natalie
Personal Approach
I believe that we all have within in us the potential to be the best that we can be. Unfortunately, this potential is often compromised by the situations and environment in which we find ourselves. Current life events, the impact of a recent trauma or experiences in our past may leave us struggling to cope. As a result, we may find ourselves behaving in ways which are detrimental to our own sense of well-being and/or our relationships with others. It can be difficult to recognise the possibility that things could be different in the future. We find ourselves "stuck" and unable to move forward in the way in which we'd like.
My aim as a therapist is to offer non-judgemental support and understanding. I will facilitate exploration and new insight into what you are experiencing as a way of helping you to discover previously unthought of choices, make difficult decisions or simply find a more comfortable "way of being".
Professional Qualifications and Experience
I have a Masters degree in Humanistic Person-Centred Psychotherapy from The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute which is affiliated to Birmingham University. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and adhere to their codes of ethics and good practice. I continue to be committed to on-going personal and professional development, including regular supervision. This includes additional training in working with anger, trauma therapy and in relationship counselling.
I have over four years experience working with clients in various organisational settings, as well as in private practice. These include a GP surgery, Nottingham City Council employee assistance programme and the charity Nottingham Counselling Service. I have worked with individuals age 15-75 for time limited periods of 6 weeks up to 2 years, as well as on an open-ended basis. I have recently begun to expand my practice to include working with couples.
I also have a personal interest in working with people affected by autistic spectrum disorders, such as Aspergers Syndrome and their partners, siblings and parents.
